At Clutch Physical Therapy, we provide customized, functional treatments with a full understanding of what you’re going through mentally and emotionally. The wild-animal-trapped-in-a-cage feeling when your body isn't cooperating? We get it.

You will receive the highest quality of care and undivided attention from actual doctors — not aides or assistants. Your recovery is too important to be treated by someone from the JV squad.

We also provide camaraderie as athletes ourselves — we’re out there training, competing and fundraising for charities right along with you. We place a very high value on the development of long term relationships with the athletes we treat.

We’ll address the root cause of your pain, then develop a regimen of injury prevention to maximize your potential and keep you pain-free.

Our Athlete Mechanics specialize in:

  • Sports & Orthopedic Physical Therapy, using the techniques of Applied Functional Science, Active Release Technique (ART) and Spinal Mobilization and Manipulation
  • Post-Op Rehab (Specialization in ACL, Achilles and Rotator Cuff and Labral Repairs)
  • Sports Performance
  • Soft Tissue Mobilization
  • Biomechanical Video Analysis
  • General commiseration that injury blows

dr. joshua grahlman

FOUNDER

Patient athlete John C. (left) + Dr. Joshua Grahlman (right) — Athlete Mechanic, all-things-outdoors-enthusiast, dad, ice cream connoisseur, Spartan!

Dr. Joshua Grahlman, PT, DPT, FAFS graduated from Columbia University with an orthopedic specialty and has spent his career treating athletes of all levels in New York City. With an established patient following and desire to provide the highest caliber of individualized care to athletes of all levels, he founded Clutch Physical Therapy in 2013.

Josh has traveled the country to take part in continuing education classes, and is recognized as a Fellowship in Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute for Functional Transformation (GIFT). This expertise allows him to incorporate groundbreaking new techniques in his personalized treatments. Josh is also certified in Active Release Technique and Spinal Manipulation and is a TRX Suspension Training Specialist. He has consulted for Triathlete magazine and CBS News, and regularly hosts clinics about injury prevention and sports performance in New York City.

With special knowledge of endurance and overhead sports as well as biomechanics, Josh has treated the whole gamut of athletes — from four-time World Ironman Champion Chrissie Wellington, two Ironman Champion triathletes, an Olympic marathoner and fencer, to age-group competitors, weekend warriors and runners of all skill levels.

As a marathoner, triathlete, obstacle course racer, avid football, softball and dodgeball player and former wrestler, Josh truly understands the athlete mindset and how important it is to get patients back to doing what they love.

With two kids and managing his practice, he doesn’t have a lot of free time, but he loves running and racing with them in the double jogger while his son yells “Faster, Daddy! Faaaaaaaster!”

DR. JANE IGNATOVA

ATHLETE MECHANIC

Dr. Jane Ignatova overseeing patient athlete Lynne's postpartum comeback.

As a former gymnast and current OCR enthusiast, Dr. Jane Ignatova, PT, DPT understands the importance of maintaining a positive mind and healthy body, and believes quality of movement is the key to improving function and performance.

Prior to earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Jane worked as a personal trainer and studied nutrition and exercise science. She’s always found joy in helping people reach their goals, particularly those who have physical and medical limitations. She joined the Clutch team because of its commitment to serving an athletic patient population — she wanted the chance to help people who care about their bodies perform at their full potential.

Jane recently completed the Spartan Sprint in Tuxedo, NY and the Philadelphia Half Marathon through Team in Training. She trained to improve her own run fitness, better relate to her patients who are endurance athletes, and help crush cancer.

Her clinical experience includes evaluation and treatment using the Applied Functional Science method as well as Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation

When she’s not treating patients, Jane loves hiking, spinning, yoga and exploring the food scene in NYC.

ANDIA SMULL

PATIENT ATHLETE ADVOCATE

Andia joined our team to make your life easier. Need to get in ASAP? Hit her up! Need someone to fight tooth and nail with an insurance company? Andia’s the one you want on your side.

A born and bred UES’er who still lives just 5 blocks from her childhood home, Andia is entirely overqualified for her position. We are lucky to have this 6-time NYC Marathon finisher and former Director of Marketing for NYRR on our team. Andia’s love for running burns deep in her personal and professional life — as long as those miles are logged outside. No treadmills, thankyouverymuch.

Andia originally came to Clutch PT as a patient and understands all too well the frustration that comes with not being able to exercise when you want to. She appreciated how devoted our clinical staff is to providing the highest caliber of care, and has become as passionate as the rest of our team about getting patient athletes better. Reach her at Andia@ClutchPT.com.
