WhaT’S A HOME WORKSPACE ERGONOMICS EVALUATION? CAN’T YOU JUST TELL ME WHAT CHAIR TO GET?

The main purpose of a one-on-one evaluation of how you’re working from home is to prevent you from royally screwing up your body and posture. Proper workspace ergonomics can eliminate tension and pain, boost your mood, reduce stress, up your productivity and help you own that Zoom room. Even if you’re not wearing pants.

There’s no one chair that works for every body type and work style. So before we tell you what to get (and we will get to that), we need to see where you’ll be using that chair, and get a sense of how you spend your days. (Are you constantly on phone calls or video conferences? Do you use a laptop or desktop computer? Are you trying to work from the couch? Using multiple screens? Hiding from your fam in your car and taking calls there? Etc.)

We will also get to know YOU — we’ll ask about your medical and athletic history and conduct some basic movement assessments. You will have our undivided attention which may need to be directed at you from various angles, so dress comfortably. (As if you’re doing anything else right now.) We’ll need you to set up your phone or computer in a way that will allow us to see your whole body in the space(s) where you’re working. We’ll also need to see your feet, so show up barefoot or be prepared to ditch the socks and shoes when we ask.

We will evaluate your workspace, direct you to make adjustments in real time and make recommendations for equipment, accessories and furniture that best suit your individual needs. We’ll fix what we can on the spot, and give you a plan to fix the rest. You can expect to leave your evaluation with a solid understanding of how to improve your work style, the steps you need to take to optimize it further (stuff to purchase), and a regimen of stretches and exercises to help you self-manage pain. Your physical therapist will walk you through the exercises in detail and send you the recording of your session for your reference.

THAT ALL MAKES LOADS OF SENSE. but HOW MUCH WILL IT SET ME BACK?

Working in a chair that was never meant to be a chair for work will cost you a lot more than this. Ultimately, your financial responsibility will depend on your insurance and a few other factors. Right now, the rules are changing faster than Joe Exotic infiltrated our lives. Reach out to us by text at (212) 203-6802 to learn more.
